It was love at first sight when I laid eyes on this wonderful piece
30 inches tall
I found him at an estate sale in Carpentersville, Illinois. The owner was a retired pilot for American Airlines
Gorgeous Solid Teak Wood
This carved man could be from Central or South America, he looks like he could be a mango plantation worker
Incredible graining & highlights in this amazing wood
I restored the finish with many, many coats of hand rubbed varnish....showcasing all the rich natural beauty of this wood
Entirely hand carved from a solid log of teak....if you look at the underside of the base you can see the growth rings, even the base is beautiful.
I love all of the fine details....... such as his pant leg rolled up to the knee on one leg, the hat is spectacular, his face is amazing, great details carved into the jawline, the lips, nose & eyes. The shoulder bag & mango in his hand all add up to make this guy look fantastic....of course the curved machete is world class
Character marks in this piece including shrinkage cracks/splits, nicks
The wood type was verified by microscopy proving it to be teak
I am proud to offer you this museum quality masterpiece!!
All the best, Bryan
