Marquetry Masterpiece Antique Furniture Chest Drawers Dresser French Provincial
I Proudly offer this World Class Chest on Chest....Details, Details & More Details...including Inlaid Marquetry to Die For.
You will not find another chest exactly like this anywhere on the planet...guaranteed. This beautiful chest is fit for royalty
I restore antiques and customize furniture, I acquired this diamond in the rough needing restoration. Believe it or not, it was previously painted white, I acquired this with the paint partially removed. (I have a pre-restoration photo)
No doubt, the original owner was a sophisticated person with great means. It is highly probable this chest was a commissioned piece for a very wealthy client
This chest is circa 1900-1920's.
The primary wood appears to be English walnut, also known as European/ Circassian walnut which originates around the Black Sea and tends to lighten with age.The the secondary woods are maple. The drawer sides, back and bottom are oak
All of the solid brass hardware is reproduction period style with a custom antique finish, including the beautiful keyhole covers. The fourth drawer down has dividers with 3 compartments, the middle one has a sliding jewelry box which can be slid front to back
The top I restored with a new walnut veneer over the original veneer which needed restored. The upper drawer carvings on the left and right corners have a few small pieces of carving missing
The rounded/curved corner posts are a great detail especially with their spectacular burled inlays and of course the intricate floral marquetry(just look closely at the close up photo, it is amazing work, with very tiny inlays and using many different wood species) The amazing corner post marquetry is mirror imaged on the opposing corner posts.
The upper drawers with the book matched burl inlays are stunning. Of course, the drawers feature dovetail joinery at all 4 corners. The delicate arched trim which outlines the upper drawers is a fine piece of craftsmanship. The fourth drawer is amazing with its floral marquetry and carved trim which picture frames the drawer. Every where you look on this chest there is cross banded inlay work,amazing.......
Notice the superb highly figured "tiger/fiddle back" horizontal grain pattern on the side panels, there is also vertical grain pattern, most probably "crotch" walnut, once again just a display of exquisite craftsmanship and artistic design in this one of a kind chest
The chest will have minor beauty marks consistent with its age, just like all fine antiques. There are some worn veneer edges,a few pieces of carving missing from the top drawer front, a missing dust panel, minor nicks etc.In my opinion they take nothing away from the majesty of this piece, or any other fine historic piece which has extremely minor issues, anyone who deals in antiques is well aware to expect such minor issues
The carved rope trim which wraps the lower sides and front lower area adds great detail
This chest is all about details, details and more details and a showpiece of exquisite craftsmanship.I restored the finish after removing the remaining white paint. The finish was restored with many, many coats of a hand rubbed satin varnish.
This chest is built like a tank, heavy and solid as a rock, ready to place and enjoy
It is no doubt going to be a conversation piece and the focal point of most any room. Envision this in an entryway/foyer or great room/living room. I think it would be wonderful in an office reception area, a bedroom, of course it will be gorgeous wherever you choose to put it!!.........
It was pure joy to restore this wonderful historic one of a kind treasure, perhaps it has your name on it
Lest I forget, the wonderful carved legs, on the front and back, they look regal and all hand carved
You will never find another chest like this on the planet, it is amazing!
Life is short, surround yourself with beauty, you won't regret it!..............kindest regards, Bryan
